Will of
John Abernathy

In the name of God, Amen,
I John Abernathy of the County of Catawba & State of North Carolina being now called to
the War & battle field knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, I do make and ordain
this my last Will & Testament, that is to say.
Principal, & first of all I give & recommend my sole into the hands of Almighty God that gave it
& my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent & Christian burial at the descretion of the
executors nothing doubting but the general resurection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty
power of God as touching such worldly estate where with it hath pleased God to bless me in this
life I give devise [ink blot: last of all?] I give unto the same in the following manner & form:
First of all I give unto my beloved wife Caroline my lands horses cattle & every thing
belonging to me until after her death then it is to be divided between my five children.
I appoint A. J. Whitener my whole & sole Executor.
In witness where unto we set our hand & seal this the 21st of December in the year of our Lord
Eighteen hundred and Sixty two.
