Samuel Abernathy

In the name of God Amen, I Samuel Abernathy of the State of North Carolina and county of Catawba being sound in mind and memory and knowing I have once to die, I now dispose of my worldly estate in the following manner.
1st. I give and bequeath to my wife Nancy Abernathy one third of the tract of land I now live on believing to contain about three hundred and thirty-eight acres for her natural life. I also give her my wife Nancy one negro man Wesley and one negro woman named Lucy and one negro boy named Robert Augustus and one negro boy named Carry for her natural life. I also leave her my brown horse one sorrel mare and five head of cattle her choice and my stock of hogs as many as she needs and my stock of sheep as many as she needs also I leave her one hundred dollars in money and all my household and kitchen furniture including white card loom cubboard black with all wooden vessels. I also leave her my farming utensels of every description waggon gearing windmill plough hereafter her natural life with two feather beds and furniture.
2nd. I give to my daughter Lizer Roberson five hundred dollars in money including one hundred sixty she has received three hundred forty behind. I also leave her one negro woman named Elizabeth and her son Alexander and one negro boy named Ephraim and 1 bed and furniture.
3rd. I leave to my daughter Susa Cornelius wife of John Cornelius ten dollars.
4th I leave to my son John L Abernathy the two thirds of my land which I have not willed to my wife Nancy and the one third at her death. I also leave to my son John L one negro woman named Caroline and her child named Sara Jane and one negro girl named Sela and one cow and one bed with furniture.
5th. I leave to my grandson William Asbury three hundred seventy-five dollars to be paid to him at my death.
6th. I leave to my grandaughter Sara Ann three hundred seventy-five dollars to be paid at my death in money.
7th. The money or notes which I have not willed be equally devided between Lizer Roberson my daughter and John L Abernathy my son if any.
8th. I leave if there be any money or stock or furniture after my wife's death and debts are paid it be equally divided between Lizer Roberson John L Abernathy William Asbury and Sara Asbury.
9th. I leave the slaves willed to my wife after her death to be equally divided between Lizer Roberson and John L Abernathy and William S Asbury and Sarah Asbury.
10th. I leave my son-in-law Isaac Roberson executor of this my last will and testement, signed and witnessed and acknowledged December 1st 1856.
