David Abernathy

In the name of God Amen. I David Abernathy of the County of Lunenberg being in perfect health mind and memory and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do remomment my soul unto the hinds of almighty God who gave it and my body to be buried in a Christian like manner and [?ching] my worldy estate wherewith it has been pleased God to bless me with after my just debts are paid I give dispose of in the manner and form following. Viz. Item: I lend to my beloved wife Amy all my land and plantation i now possess during her natural life. I also lend her three Negroes, one negro man Sam, one negro woman Lida, one negro boy Manuel. I also lend her two horses; one bay mare, al, one sorrel horse freeman. I also lend her half of my stock of sheep and half of my hogs and all my stock of cattle and I also lend her all my household and kitchen furniture except for that is hereafter mentioned, during her natural life. Item: I give to my son Jesse D. Abernathy one negro man Sephus, one feather bed and furniture to him and his heirs forever. Item: I give to my son Wm T. Abernathy one negro man, Ned and one feather bed and furniture to him and heirs forever. Item: I give to my daughter Mary T. Abernathy two negroes, one negro woman Abbey and one negro boy Edmund. I also give her one feather bed and furniture, one side saddle and large runk to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give to my daughter Lucy P, Abernathy two negro girsl [sic], Lealy and Tammy. I also give her one feather bed and furniture, one large trunk and one side saddle to her and her heirs forever. Item: I give to my daughter Ann L. Bragg and children Polly A. Bragg, Amy T. Bragg, Wm L. Bragg, David B. Bragg, Joel P. Bragg and Eliza M. Bragg, two feather beds and furniture, one side saddle, one large trunk and one blie [sic:blue] dish. I also give them all that is coming to me by virtue of a deed of Trust from James Bragg to me or William Bragg [__] [__] Estate to them and their heirs forever. Item: I have heretofore given to my son Blackstone Abernathy. Item: I have heretofore given to my son David Abernathy. Item: I give to my Jesse D. Abernathy and William T. Abernathy all my land but to my wife after her death to be equally divided between them both and their heirs and assigns forever. Item: my will and desire is that one negro man bob and all my stock [___] [___] also one dish one large black walnut table be sold towards paying my debts. Item: it is my will and desire that all my estate lent to my wife be sold at her death and one fifth part of the money I give to my daughter Ann L. Braggs di o children; Polly A. Bragg, Amy T. Bragg, Wm L. Bragg, David B. Bragg, Joel P. Bragg and Elizabeth Brag to them and their heirs forever. Item: I give the balance of the money to my four children Jesse D. Abernathy, Wm T. Abernathy, Mary T. Abernathy and Lucy P. Abernathy to be equally divided betweem them and their heirs forever. Lastly, I constitute and appoint my sons Jesse D. Abernathy and Wm T. Abernathy e___[executors?] to this my last will and testament. This the eighteenth day of Jun in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand eight hundred and fourteen.

In Lunenburg County Court 9th Feb 1815
The last will and testament of David Abernathy dec'd was [___] in court by the excors., therein named and was proved by the oaths of the witnesses hereto subscribed and ordered to recorded and on the motion of the two [executors] therin named who having made oath according to law [____] framted [___] fpb obtainith probate of the said will in due form [_____] they ordered into law and with approved security (?) according to law.
